At Emu Heights Psychology, we offer online ADHD diagnostic assessments for adults and adolescents.
ADHD can affect much more than concentration. It may influence organisation, time management, emotional regulation, motivation, memory, relationships, study, work and everyday functioning.
At Emu Heights Psychology, ADHD assessments are offered for adults and adolescents aged 12–17. Assessments are neuro-affirming, collaborative and focused on understanding the person as a whole - not simply completing a checklist.
Appointments are available online via telehealth across Australia or in person at Blaxland Health in Blaxland, NSW.
You’ll be supported by Kylie Wheeler, a late-diagnosed neurodivergent psychologist (AuDHDer)

Adult ADHD Assessment

Many adults seek an ADHD assessment after years of feeling overwhelmed, inconsistent or unable to manage tasks that seem easier for other people. Some have developed strong coping strategies or masked their difficulties, particularly women and late-identified neurodivergent adults.
Adolescent ADHD Assessment
$990
ADHD can present differently across adolescence. Some young people may appear restless or impulsive, while others experience quieter difficulties with attention, motivation, organisation, emotional regulation or keeping up with school demands. Adolescent ADHD assessments are available for young people aged 12–17.
An adult ADHD assessment may be helpful when there are ongoing difficulties with:
Attention and concentration
Starting or completing tasks
Organisation and time management
Forgetfulness or losing items
Restlessness or feeling internally “on the go”
Impulsivity
Emotional regulation
Managing work, study, relationships or daily responsibilities
Feeling capable in some areas but significantly struggling in others
What is included?
The adult ADHD assessment includes:
Intake and developmental history
Review of current concerns and functional impact
A structured ADHD diagnostic interview using the DIVA-5
Relevant ADHD and mental health questionnaires
Consideration of childhood symptoms and current functioning
A standard written diagnostic report
A feedback appointment to discuss the outcome and recommendations
Collateral information from a parent, partner, family member or previous school reports may be helpful but is not always required.
The assessment aims to understand the young person’s functioning across different settings, including home, school and social environments. The young person’s own experience is an important part of the process.
What is included?
The adolescent ADHD assessment includes:
Parent or caregiver intake and developmental history
Clinical interview with the adolescent
Structured ADHD assessment using the Young DIVA-5
Conners 4 questionnaires completed by the adolescent, parent or caregiver, and teacher where available
Review of relevant school reports or previous assessments
Consideration of emotional, developmental, learning and behavioural factors
A standard written diagnostic report
A feedback appointment with the young person and parent or caregiver
The adolescent will also have an opportunity to speak privately with the psychologist where appropriate.

You are welcome to: Take breaks; Take time to think before answering; Bring notes; Use sensory supports; Attend with a support person; Split the interview across appointments where clinically appropriate

Can a Psychologist Diagnose ADHD?
Yes. Psychologists with appropriate training and experience can assess and diagnose ADHD.
However, psychologists do not prescribe medication. People interested in ADHD medication will need to consult a psychiatrist, paediatrician or appropriately qualified medical practitioner. A psychological assessment report can provide useful diagnostic and functional information to support ongoing care, but medication decisions remain with the treating medical practitioner.
Does the Assessment Include Cognitive or Learning Testing?
Cognitive, academic and specific learning disorder assessments are not included in the standard ADHD assessment fee. Additional assessment may be recommended when there are concerns about intellectual functioning, learning difficulties, dyslexia, language development or another condition that requires additional assessment.
Is a Referral Required?
No referral is required to book an ADHD assessment with a psychologist. You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate if the assessment is completed by a psychiatrist, paediatrician, or ADHD-specific GP. Please speak with your GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist if you would like to explore whether this pathway may apply.

What to Expect
We aim to make the assessment & therapy processes as smooth, clear, and supportive as possible. Here’s how it works:

We will contact you via email with further information and booking options. Select your preferred appointment type and time through our secure booking system (Zanda).
2. Pay 50% deposit on booking to secure your appointment
Your booking is confirmed once 50% payment is received. Full payment is required 48 hours prior to assessment interview.
3. Complete Your Intake Pack
Once payment is received, you’ll be sent:
A comprehensive intake form
Initial questionnaires
Our Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy, and Consent Form to review and sign
4. Complete psychometric assessments
Once you have completed our intake forms, you will be sent your Initial self-report psychometric assessment questionnaires
5. Attend Your Appointment
We’ll meet via secure Telehealth for your assessment session. This is a collaborative space where we’ll explore your experiences at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.
Our aim is to understand you well enough during the session to provide a thorough and accurate assessment. Occasionally, an additional session may be needed to complete the process - if so, this will be offered at no extra cost. You may also be sent additional questionnaires, depending on the information gathered so far.

7. Optional follow-up sessions
An optional 30 minute feedback session is offered with ADHD assessments. If you would like additional support after your feedback session, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. For follow-up therapy sessions, you can book appointments with your psychologist or email us.
