Meet Kylie
Psychologist • Adult-diagnosed AuDHDer • Gentle support on your journey
Hi, I’m Kylie Wheeler, MA (Psych), (she/her), a registered psychologist based on Darug Country, in Emu Heights at the foot of the Blue Mountains. I’m an adult-diagnosed neurodivergent adult. I understand how invisible challenges, emotional intensity, and lifelong masking can shape your story.
I created Emu Heights Psychology to offer respectful, collaborative, and tailored care.
My approach is:
Low-demand – no pressure to perform or explain everything
Flexible – sessions are adapted to meet your needs and energy
Evidence-based – rooted in EMDR, neurodiversity research, and compassion-focused care
Genuinely affirming – individualised and strengths-focused
Whether you’re curious about your neurodivergence, or just ready to reconnect with yourself, I’m here to walk with you—at your pace, in your own way.
EMDR Therapy
A gentle, brain-friendly way to process what feels stuck.
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It’s a therapy that helps your brain make sense of hard experiences - without needing to talk through every detail.
It was first developed for trauma, but research now supports its use for a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, phobias, low self-worth, and emotional overwhelm.
How does it work?
With the support of a trained therapist, you:
Focus on a difficult thought, memory, or feeling
While doing gentle left-right (bilateral) stimulation - usually eye movements, tapping, or alternating sounds
Your brain starts to reprocess it, often reducing the emotional intensity
This process can help you unstick what’s been looping or frozen - without needing to relive it.
Why might EMDR work well for neurodivergent brains?
Low verbal demand – You don’t have to explain everything out loud
Flexible formats – Tapping, eye movements, or sound—whatever works best for you
Supports emotional regulation – Helps reduce shutdowns, meltdowns, and overwhelm
Respects processing differences – You set the pace, take breaks, and stay in control
EMDR may be helpful for
Intense emotions or feeling flooded
Replaying past situations or negative self-talk
Phobias, panic, or social anxiety
Workplace, school, or relationship stress
Feeling stuck, disconnected, or over-reactive
Burnout or sensory/emotional overload
What does “low demand EMDR” mean? At Emu Heights Psychology, EMDR is offered with a low demand approach:
You can have your camera off for part of the session
Bring a support person if helpful
No pressure to make eye contact or explain everything in words
You're invited to go at your pace, with options to pause or stop anytime
Is EMDR for me? It might be worth exploring if:
Talk therapy hasn’t felt quite right
You want something more structured but still flexible
You’re curious about how your brain processes experiences
You’re ready to feel less stuck—but in a way that honours your boundaries
Final Thoughts
Your brain is beautifully wired—and sometimes that wiring just needs a bit of support. EMDR offers a way to work with your neurodivergent brain, not against it.
This isn’t about changing who you are. It’s about helping you feel more at home inside yourself.
Medicare Rebates Available
EMDR therapy may be eligible for Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) if referred by your GP. You will receive a rebate of $98.95 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

Autism & ADHD Assessments for Adults
Affirming insights to help you better understand your unique brain.
Why seek an assessment?
If you’ve ever wondered:
Why do I feel different or unique - like I’m masking just to get through the day?
Why do I struggle with focus, overwhelm, or sensory sensitivity - even though I try so hard?
Why do certain things exhaust me when others seem to find them easy?
You're not alone. An autism or ADHD assessment isn’t about putting you in a box. It’s about offering clarity, language, and support for how your brain works—so you can move through the world with more self-understanding and self-compassion.
What does the assessment process involve?
Our process is low-demand, respectful, and collaborative - especially designed for adults who are seeking answers later in life.
It includes:
✔️ A pre-session screening form to get a sense of your history and current challenges
✔️ A structured online interview (camera optional)
✔️ Optional input from someone who knows you well (if you’d like to include that)
✔️ Clear, neuro-affirming written summary letter or report
✔️ Optional - Time to explore questions and next steps in a feedback session or additional follow-up consultation
We offer several levels of diagnostic assessments, depending on your goals.
Why a neurodiversity-affirming approach?
No pathologising language – We see difference, not disorder
Low pressure – No forced eye contact, camera-on, or long verbal explanations
Collaborative – You’re the expert on your own experience
Sensory-aware – You can stim, pause, fidget, or take breaks whenever needed
What can a diagnosis help with?
While not everyone needs or wants a diagnosis, it can offer:
A framework for understanding lifelong experiences
Access to workplace, university, or health supports
Greater self-acceptance and validation
Community connection
A guidepost for tailoring therapy, work, or daily life to suit your needs
Is it worth it, even later in life?
Yes. Many adults seek assessment in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, or beyond.
You don’t need to justify why now is the right time.
You’re allowed to know yourself more deeply—at any stage.
All sessions are conducted online via secure telehealth and include a written report tailored to your needs.
Ready to learn more about your neurotype?
You don’t need to keep guessing. This is a gentle, respectful space to explore what’s been beneath the surface all along.
Note:
Assessments are not currently Medicare-rebatable to adults over 25YO. If you are under 25YO, please discuss Medicare options with your GP. Our reports are not intended for NDIS access applications. If you're seeking an NDIS-specific report, please email us before booking.
